ACE Roundtable is pleased to bring you our first Lunch & Learn of 2020.  This event is open to all compliance & ethics professionals.

Topic: “Effective Compliance Training and Monitoring: What the Government Says, What Outside Counsel Will Tell You, and What In-House Professionals Need to Know”

Summary: In this presentation, Andy Lyness & Matt Baughman, will address the following questions using key factors that account for government guidelines, outside counsel perspective and in-house professional application: “Is the corporation’s compliance program well designed?”, “Is the program being applied earnestly and in good faith?” and “Does the corporation’s compliance program work?”

Presenters: Andy Lyness serves as General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer for D4C Dental Brands, where he provides legal support to the organization, and helps ensure and promote the Company’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Prior to joining D4C, Mr. Lyness worked for a publicly-traded international medical device company, where he helped develop and oversee the Company’s compliance program.  Prior to that, he practiced law at King & Spalding, where his practice focused on advising clients on a range of corporate compliance matters and representing them through a variety of criminal and civil government investigations.

Matt Baughman is a partner in the Special Matters and Government Investigations group at King & Spalding.  He has more than two decades of experience handling the most sensitive and high-profile government investigations of companies in crisis situations.  From 2018-2019, Matt served as Associate Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice, as well as the Director of the Task Force on Market Integrity and Consumer Fraud, and Chair of the Department’s Corporate Enforcement and Accountability Working Group.  From 2003-2006, Matt was a Senior Counsel in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission.  Matt has a breadth of experience representing companies in some of the most intense areas of government interest, including health care fraud, cyber-security, mortgage-backed securities and related products, automobile safety, sanctioned countries, insider trading, and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.  He is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional™, and regularly advises companies on best practices in compliance.
