August 20 | Continuous Improvement

Topic: Continuous Improvement: What’s working? What’s not? What’s next?

Summary: The DOJ defines the capacity to improve and evolve as a hallmark of an effective compliance program. During this session, our panel will explore the evolving landscape of compliance programs and how companies are making incremental, but meaningful, data-driven upgrades in the spirit of “continuous improvement”.

  • How to measure success: Data is powerful when it comes to identifying and planning improvement efforts. But where does that data come from? Ideally, this type of data collection should be an ongoing effort, not a one-time effort. Our panelists will suggest a few channels that most programs have access to but are not using for data collection specifically right now.
  • Interpreting results: Data by itself is only part of the puzzle — thoughtful interpretation and analysis is critical, and it requires real compliance expertise. Our panelists will share what they have seen work best across the compliance community, and ideas for new and innovative approaches.
  • Incremental improvement opportunities: As you devise improvement efforts, a focused and incremental approach is best. Our panelists will share insights on focus areas, how to make progress, not sweeping changes, and finally treat ongoing improvement as a series of experiments that you watch and measure again to see if and how they are working. Spoiler alert: some will, some won’t — but its better to frame it this way then spend a lot of time gaining buy-in from leadership and others on the wrong approach.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify data collection channels to measure compliance program effectiveness using ongoing, systematic approaches
  • Explore methods to interpret and analyze data in order to extract meaningful insights that drive informed improvement decisions
  • Design and implement incremental improvement strategies that allow for measurement, adjustment, and continuous program evolution
